This test is useful if a BRCA1/2 mutation is present in a family member; if you have a very strong family history of breast and/or ovarian cancer; if you have had a breast cancer under the age of 35 that is hormone receptor negative. Even without a faulty BRCA gener, women with a family history of breast cancer are hghly likely to develop the disease compared to the average female population.

This was the reason Angelina Jolie had preventative breast cancer surgery, followed by ovarian cancer surgery. They also increase a man’s chance of developing male breast cancer and prostate cancer.
