Histamine Releasing Urticaria Test

Histamine is a substance that is released from specialised cells called mast cells when they are activated, often as part of an allergic immune response. This test measures the amount of histamine or its breakdown products in the blood or urine. This test can help to diagnose a subgroup of chronic urticaria related to circulating histamine releasing auto antibodies; or identifying this subgroup of patients has practical implications for their treatment. Other tests that may be needed for chronic urticaria include full blood count, liver and thyroid function, autoimmune antibodies, total specific IgE and many others.
